The things people always want to know before we get started.
Do I own the website?
Yes, all of it. The code and content are yours, and once it's paid for you can take the whole lot to your own accounts and run it yourself, or leave it with me to host and look after. Either way there's no lock-in, and you keep it even if you stop working with me.
Do I pay anything upfront?
No, nothing upfront. I build the whole thing, you check it over, and you only pay once you're happy with it. Then it goes live on your own domain.
Am I locked in?
Never. There's no contract that traps you and no platform you can't leave. Plenty of cheap sites are a subscription in disguise that you lose the moment you stop paying, and that's not how I work.
Do I work with you directly the whole way through?
Always. You deal with me, one person, the whole way through. The person you talk to is the one designing and building your site, and the one looking after it once it's live, so nothing gets lost in a handover.
What platform will you build my website on?
It depends on the job. Online stores I build on Shopify, the best platform for ecommerce, and for everything else I use a fast, modern setup that's built around your business rather than squeezed into a template. Builders like Wix and Squarespace are fine to get started, but you're renting a template on their subscription, and they get slow and limiting as you grow. What I build is quicker, more flexible, and yours to keep.
What's the difference between a web designer and a web developer?
A web designer handles how the site looks and feels, and a web developer handles the code that makes it all work. On most projects you'd need both. With me you get both in one person, so the design and the build come from the same place and nothing gets lost passing it between people.
Can you redesign or move my existing site without losing my traffic and performance?
Yes, and that's exactly how I approach it. A new site should never send your performance backwards. I bring all your content across, map and manage the redirects so nothing breaks, and keep your traffic, performance and results intact through the switch, with no downtime when it goes live. I've managed migrations for sites with hundreds of thousands of URLs, so yours is well within what I'm used to.
How long does it take?
It all comes down to scope. Some smaller builds I can turn around in under a few days, and more complex sites naturally take longer. We'll set a clear timeline once we've scoped it on our call.
What if I'm not happy?
We agree exactly what's getting built before I start, in writing, so there are no surprises. I build to that, with rounds of changes along the way, and you only pay once you're happy with it.
